Stud TensionersThe most accurate means of tightening a flanged connection is by utilizing hydraulic bolt tensioners.

Typically, multiple tensioners are linked together by high-pressure hoses to the pump. High-pressure fluid from the Aztec 30K pumping unit pressurizes the tensioners to create a force that actually stretches the stud (studs).

When this happens, the nut (nuts) lift off the flange. The nut is run down to its seated position by turning the nut-retaining disk with a tommy bar. With the nut tight against the flange, the pressure in the load cell is released and the stud remains stretched with the load locked in.
