CAUTION
Lubrication and cleaning is necessary for this tool to function properly. Grease is required between the cartridge and the tool housing.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Make certain that the proper cartridge is inserted in the proper manner inside the tool housing (the cartridge should conform to the shape of the cams, and fit easily into the housing).
  2. Slide the Triple Gripper Stud Tool down over the stud to be removed, attach the impact gun to the Triple Gripper Stud Tool, insert the metal connecting pin and hold in place with the o-ring or in the case of the LP series be sure the socket is fully engaged.
  3. Make certain that the alignment of the impact wrench and Triple Gripper Stud Tool is straight. Do not bind or lean on the tool when using the impact tool. This can cause damage to the tool or stud.
  4. Make certain that there is both adequate air pressure and volume for the size impact wrench being used.
  5. The tool is designed to “lock on” to the stud quickly when a burst of energy is applied by the impact wrench. Press the trigger of the impact wrench for a short burst to lock on.
  6. When the tool has locked on to the stud, continue pressing the trigger of the impact wrench in twenty to thirty second bursts until the stud breaks free from its embediment.
  7. Once the stud is broken free, reverse the impact wrench to make it release the stud before completely removing the stud from the flanged connection. This reversal for a moment will permit the tool to get a new grip without severely locking onto the stud (for ease of removal once the stud has been freed from the flanged connection).
  8. CAUTION: If the stud does not break free after a few attempts, it is recommended that one move on to another stud that can be removed easily, and return to the difficult ones later. One must determine if a given stud is “mechanically bound” or “galled”. IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED THAT ONE CONTINUE TO TRY TO REMOVE A STUD THAT IS MECHANICALLY BOUND OR GALLED BECAUSE:
    1. Damage to the threaded hole could occur.
    2. Damage to the stud could occur.
    3. Damage to the stud tool could occur.
    4. Damage to the air tool could occur.
    5. Endanger personnel
DO NOT EXCEED THE COMPANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPACT SIZE. DAMAGE CAN OCCURE TO THE TOOL AND ENDANGER PERSONEL.
  9. CAUTION: Do not attempt to lift the stud from the vessel using the Triple Gripper Stud Tool. Remove the stud from the tool before lifting the stud. If the stud is lifted and moved while inside the Triple Gripper Tool, it could fall and injure personnel or damage equipment.
